Velliyangiri andavar Temple - Coimbatore

Popularly known, as Dakshina Kailash, Velliangiri is one of the pietistic pilgrimage hills, located in the western Coimbatore village of Poondi at about 30 Km from the city. Arulmigu Velliangiri Andavar temple dedicated to lord Shiva with his consort Manonmani Amman, lies in silhouetted foothills of Velliangiri Mountains. The predominant icon of Panchalinga cave temple located atop 7th hill atan altitude of 6000 feet and about 6 Km from foothill. Only way to reach the cave temple is by climbing the inclined uphill path passing 7 hills amidst dense forest. The rock cave is the abode for the presiding deity Lord Shiva in the form of Swayambu (Naturally formed Linga) along with 4 other linga's collectively called as Panchalingas that represent 5 forms of Shiva namely water, fire, wind, earth and the sky. The best season to pilgrimage is during January to May, only by the time priest available for special poojas and cave flocked with devotees. Outside this time is potentially dangerous of bad weather and movement of animals. Women are not allowed beyond the foothill temple because of wild forest and animals.
