The tale of the temple portrayed, as this was the region where Bheema of Pancha Pandavas with the blessings of goddess Kali vanquished asura Pagasuran who used to kill the people for food. Pagasuran realized his evil act after the defeat and his strong devotion towards Kali earned him the boon as Kaval Bootam (demon of safeguard). Vanabadrakali amman is the presiding deity and idols of Bheema and Pagasuran also worshipped by the devotees. Unmarried and childless devotees visit this temple in the belief that Kali's blessing would grant their wishes.
