Perur Patteeswarar Temple - Coimbatore

Patteeswarar temple is located in the western Coimbatore area of Perur at a distance of 7 km from the city. The age-old temple's sanctumdedicated to Lord Shiva was built by the great emperor Kari Kala Cholan of early Chola Dyanasty about 1500 years ago.The temple was well maintained by the successors for many centuries and Cholas of 11-13th century extended its structure with Artha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam.It was during the 14-17th century when Hoysala and Vijayanagara kings immensely supported further development. Later additions were Kanakashaba Mandam in 17th century by Alagadri Nayak of Madurai, Swami and Amman temple, mantap of 63 sages in 18th century and lastly Kalyanamandam in the present 20th century.

Patteeswarer one of the names of Lord Shiva in the form of Swayambu Linga is the primary deity in the sanctum.Golden Kanakashaba mandapam is where the Nataraja abodes with artistic and symbolic representations of Manifestations and fierce dance (Thandavam).Unique sculptures of this golden mandapam are subtle example of the ethos of cultural antiquity.
