Maruthamalai hill, a most prominent religious location in the Western Ghats is just 15 Km away from Coimbatore. Lord Subramaiyaswami as presiding deity, Maruthmalai is comparatively equal to the Arupadai Veedu. Myth says the temple belonged 12th Centuary A.D. As per the myths, an exhausted and thirsty sage was in repose under shadows of Marutham tree prayed Murgan for water. In response water surged from the tree's roots and the delighted sage called Muruga as Lord of Marutham and Jalam, whichlater turned Maruthachalpathi. Idumban deity carved on a large circular rock and Kuthirai Kulampadigalare located on the uphill stair path. The main sanctum of deity Muruga with his consorts Valli and Deivanai situated atop hill. Pampatti Siddha and his cave located in the south east of the main sanctum. Pancha vriksham and Uchi pillayar shrines are located adjacent to the main shrine. Thai Poosam and Car festival, Thiru Karthigai are the major festival that attracts countless devotees.
